Cebu City, Philippines, July 4, 2021- - Homegrown call center firm Performance 360 Call Center is giving priority to displaced tourism workers for its 100-hour free call center training online.
Its founder Mike Cubos said the program has received more than 2,000 applications since its re-launching in May. Of the total applications, 30 percent are from tourism and its allied industries.
"We are focusing on the tourism sector because the number of laid-off workers from this industry is very high," said Cubos.
Around 4.2 million people have lost their jobs due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) had said in February 2021, and one of the most affected was the tourism industry.
Performance 360 has tapped the various local government units (LGU) in Cebu province to roll out this program.
Last month, the company announced that it was accepting trainees from Alcoy, Argao, Boljoon, Dalaguete, Oslob, Samboan, Santander, Cordova, Liloan, Compostela, Danao, Carmen, Sogod, Borbon and northern Cebu.

"Sixty percent of the applicants are from the LGUs, but we have other LGUs that we weren’t able to serve due to distance and slow internet connectivity," said Cubos.
The trainees will have familiarization with the US, Europe and Australia working culture; learn English communication skills, sales and telemarketing, customer service, call handling and get hands-on phone experience.
"After completion of the training, they will be provided with a certificate and will be endorsed to big call center companies for priority interview," said Cubos, adding that they will link the trainees to Qualfon, Concentrix and other call center firms that are currently hiring.
Cubos earlier said it is high time to boost job training such as this, especially since the work-from-home setup has become a favorable working style for most companies due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The training was initially aimed at capacitating senior high graduates and those jobseekers who want to pursue a career in the call center industry.
According to the Contact Center Association of the Philippines, the business process management industry will hire between 80,000 to 100,000 employees this year as demand for support services for e-retail or e-commerce, logistics, healthcare and others has been rising due to the pandemic.
