News : Fresno PD Unveils 911 Call Center
Fresno, CA, USA, July, 2017 -- The Fresno Police Department unveiled it's newly remodeled 911 call center. The upgraded dispatch room features telecommunications equipment. The center is located in the basement of police headquarters.
Chief Jerry Dyer said the remodel was paid for by the State's emergency communications funds. Emergency services dispatcher Kathy DeBorde said she wouldn't trade her job for anything.
"After 26 years, I can still say that, you know, I still have a passion for what I do," stated DeBorde.
DeBorde said the newly remodeled communications center is going to make the life of a dispatcher much easier. They take in about 3,000 emergency and non-emergency calls a day.

She said, "Now we come to work and it just seems like, it's more calm, you know. It's clean, it's efficient."
DeBorde showed us how each console is temperature controlled, and the desk height can be adjusted.
"If you're sitting for too long, it's not good to sit for too long," stated DeBorde.
Dyer said the project had been in the works for about a year. It's highly technical, with advanced telephone equipment and an upgraded electrical system.
"Which will no doubt greatly enhance the service that we provide to our citizens as a result of the increased efficiency," said Dyer.
Dyer said one of the new features also includes mapping technology.
He stated, "Even if a caller calls in and does not know the locations in which they're at, we in dispatch, our dispatchers will be able to most likely identify not only where they're at, but where they're travelling."
Dyer said he hopes the nearly 85 dispatchers enjoy their new home to handle our big City of Fresno.
FPD is now hiring Emergency Services Dispatchers. Two job information sessions will be held in council chambers, 2600 Fresno St. All interested people are invited to attend.
