News : Good Response to Students’ Helpline: Minister
Coimbatore, India, March 3, 2018 - School Education Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan has said that there has been good response to the students’ helpline the School Education Department had introduced.
Addressing reporters at the Coimbatore airport on Friday, he said since the launch of the helpline (14417) on Thursday morning, 4,214 students had called seeking help.
Of those, the people at the call helpline had answered 1,742 students, he said.
In the coming days, the government had planned to widen the scope of the helpline in such a way that students could also call up for career guidance, he said. The department had also tied-up with Sneha, an NGO that offered support to those depressed and with suicidal tendencies. The government would launch the services soon and the counsellors would be available for the students.
The Minister also said that the government was contemplating launching a programme to support students who excelled in academics, attendance, social service.
As for teachers recruitment, he said that the government had issued the call for candidates to apply and it would appoint teachers within a short period.
