News : Goodwill Offers Free Call Center Job Training Program
Albuquerque, NM, USA, Sept 21, 2016 -- If you're looking for a job -- or you know someone who is -- there is a free program that offers training for jobs available right now.
If you're supporting your family, you likely want stable work and predictable hours. For a lot of New Mexicans, call centers fit the bill.
That's why Goodwill is offering a free three-week training program, where you'll learn computer and customer service skills needed for those jobs.
"Basically all the customer service skills you can use in the call center, but if you choose not to go into a call center, they can be used anywhere in any industry that you deal with the public, so it’s teaching customer service," said call center trainer Maggie Pappas.
Participants in the program will complete the Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. classes at Goodwill sites in Albuquerque and near Rio Rancho, then meet face-to-face with human resources representatives from local call centers to apply for full-time work.
"Probably a good 30 to 40 percent success in hiring those students right out of the classroom," said Pappas. "Some of them got hired on graduating, some before they even completed the course, at fourteen dollars an hour."
Pappas said most employers they work with offer ten to fifteen dollars an hour, health benefits, and in some cases help with childcare.
