News : Government Starts Helpline for Poor Patients in Nagpur
Nagpur, April 21, 2014 -- Patients from economically backward section can now get the relevant information about their treatment on a toll free number. The number, started by the state charity commissioner, gives the caller information about the scheme under Bombay Public Trusts Act, 1950 that ensures reserved beds in certain hospitals for people who earn less than Rs 1 lakh per month.
A call on the number 1800222270 starts off with basic information about the scheme in Marathi and then gives the caller an option of getting more information in Marathi, Hindi or English. A pre-recorded message also gives specifics about the scheme and the documents required for a patient to avail it.
The recorded voice message first specifies that the scheme provides treatment free of cost to people earning below Rs 50,000 a month and at concessional rates for people with monthly earnings between Rs 50,000 and Rs 1 lakh. It also informs the patient of the relevant documents required to avail the scheme. There is also information about the websites that provide the details as well as the relevant number on which more information cab be sought.
In a statement released through the district collectorate, the charity commissioner informed that the toll free number has been started by his office for making the scheme more accessible to the people with the line being operated out of his Mumbai office. He also exhorted patients from economically poor background to make use of this facility.
