News : Hastings Direct Set to Grow Workforce in Leicester
Leicester, UK, May 6, 2015 -- An insurance company which hopes to create hundreds of jobs in the years ahead has opened its new Leicester office.
Hastings Direct has taken on its first two dozen staff after moving into the Equinox building, off Burleys Way flyover.
Management say the call centre will grow to 230 staff by the end of the year, which could eventually rise to 400.
The national company provides personal car, home, bike and van insurance and the new Leicester office will complement customer service centres at Bexhill-on-Sea and Newmarket.
Rupinder Bedi, from Wigston, is a team leader, who will oversee around a dozen customer representatives.
He said: "This is our first week in Leicester and I'm loving the culture. "It's all very motivational, with a lot of fun and an obvious business message behind it.
"We weren't sure what to expect of the new building, but it actually looks really good and has a great amount of space. I can't wait to see it full of people."
Fellow team leader Jo Woodyatt, from Anstey, said: "From day one, everyone I've spoken to has been passionate and supportive.
"I think that's what's going to set this apart from other contact centres in Leicester."
Customer representative Eugene Francis, from Hamilton, has rejoined Hastings six years after being made redundant by the business under its previous management structure.
He said: "When I came for the interview I saw it was a completely different culture – it's now all about the staff as well as the customers."
The company will be based in Equinox until at least the end of the year when it is expected to relocate to a larger, as yet unconfirmed, office in the city.
It is understood that will probably be the base section of St George's Tower, near the railway station.
New site director Andrea Gray – who has relocated from Surrey – said all recruitment was done in-house to ensure the best quality of staff.
She said: "We are going to be recruiting throughout the rest of this year and the plan is to grow the staff to 230 by the year's end. We are looking to more than double that in the next couple of years.
"We've had a great response to our advertisements
"We originally looked at a number of cities, mainly in the north and north-east, and Leicester was picked due to its vibrancy, and the fact there are three universities on our doorstep."
