News : Helpline to Beat Result Worries
Thiruvananthapuram, India, May 6, 2019 -- A bundle of nerves ahead of exam result declaration? Well, help is just a phone call away.
Direct Intervention System for Health Awareness (Disha), a 24-hour helpline of the Department of Health and the National Health Mission that is available on the toll-free number 1056, is at hand to help relieve any stress experienced by students or parents ahead of announcement of results.
Founded in 2013, Disha not only provides telecounselling to students but is also a helpline for the public on health-related matters. Examination time is the period when Disha receives maximum number of calls. It also get calls seeking help to combat stress related to results, though their number is fewer, says Disha floor manager Gopika N. Nair.

Beginning February, Disha received 250 exam-related calls from students. These pertained to how to study or manage time better. In such cases, students are given tips by Disha’s 16 counsellors.
After the examinations, Disha received 10-odd calls from students anxious about their results.
Students call up complaining that parents compare them to their siblings or fear that if their marks take a dip the family will take it really bad. Higher secondary students call up expressing worry about courses after Class 12.
We Help for Students
C.M. Azeem, State coordinator, Career Guidance and Adolescent Counselling Cell, which organised a month-long telecounselling programme ‘We Help for students’ in March says it is during examination time that all helplines are flooded with calls. After examinations or around the time of results, students have the option of calling up school Souhrida teacher coordinators who are free after the end of the academic session.
Phone numbers of these coordinators are put up in school.
However, during exam time these teachers are busy with exam duty and so students tend to approach ‘We Help’ or Disha for help.
The Humanity Trust of India’s Karmayogu helpline (ph: 0471 2464100, 9400464100) is also open round-the-clock for two days from the time of declaration of SSLC results.
