News : Building of 911 Call Center to Start Soon
Columbia, MO, USA, Feb 10, 2015 -- Boone County Southern District Commissioner Karen Miller said she expects Little Dixie Construction to receive notice to start building a 911 call center and emergency management complex after pre-construction meetings on Feb. 18.
The commission officially awarded the contract to Little Dixie at a Feb. 3 commission meeting.
Miller, County Auditor June Pitchford, County Counselor C.J. Dykhouse and building inspector Dan Marshall will sit down with representatives from Little Dixie, its subcontractors and consulting firms including Mission Critical Partners, PW Architects and Architects Design Group. Miller described the preliminary meeting as a final overview of the project and "the nuts and bolts of how we operate as a county."
"It's just going through the contracts and making sure everyone's on the same page as to who's responsible for what," Miller said, adding that she'd make sure contractors understand details about prevailing wage requirements and the necessities of background checks for their employees.
The pre-construction meetings are a way to make sure the job goes smoothly by reviewing the project timeline, Miller said, and they also give contractors an opportunity to ask questions of the county and of each other.
Commissioner Miller said Erik Miller, the vice president of PW Architects, would be a "huge" part of the project because of his past experience with Architects Design Group.
Miller said she doesn't expect any problems to emerge from the talks. She said she has worked with Little Dixie on previous projects, including the plaza outside the Roger B. Wilson Boone County Government Buildingand renovations in the Boone County Sheriff's Department and County Jail.
