News : Suicide Prevention Hotline Begins 2015 With Volunteer Recruitment
Dec 22, 2014 -- The Idaho Suicide Prevention Hotline is set to hold information sessions for those interested in becoming volunteer phone responders.
The hotline's staff is encouraging those with professional mental health services backgrounds to train to become Phone Room Supervisors, though anyone interested in becoming a volunteer phone operator may sign up for information sessions in January. The next training class begins Jan. 31, 2015.
Volunteer phone responders must receive more than 40 hours of training and apprenticeship, and commit to one 4.5-hour hotline shift per week for a year.
Information sessions will be held at Mountain States Group offices, located at 1607 W. Jefferson St. in Boise from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7; Thursday, Jan. 15; Tuesday, Jan. 20; and Tuesday, Jan. 27. For more information call Nina Leary at 208-258-6992.
If you or someone you know is in emotional distress or suicidal crisis, call 1-800-273-TALK.
