News : Ageas to Create 355 Jobs in Stoke-on-Trent
Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, March 1, 2015 -- More than 300 new jobs are set to be created by insurance provider Ageas which has drawn up major expansion plans for its Trentham Lakes operation.
The firm has secured planning permission for an extension which will have enough room for 355 new employees and 78 parking spaces.
That is in addition to the 540 full-time staff who are already selling insurance for the company.
In its planning application, Ageas states: "Thanks to the continuing success of the company there is a need to increase employment levels for our existing call centre.
"We are always looking to the future and ensuring our sites are fit for purpose.
"This demonstrates our commitment to maintaining a significant presence and contribution to the economic well-being of Stoke-on-Trent."
The firm turned down the opportunity to build new offices elsewhere to expand its current operations at Gordon Banks Drive.
The office was built in 1999 and used as a call centre by HSB before being taken over by Ageas Insurance.
An Ageas spokesman said: "Various options were considered, including the aquisition of additional space on Trentham Lakes and elsewhere.
"The continued success of the company and its enhanced employment potential is to be seen as a great benefit to the area."
The extension – which has just been approved by Stoke-on-Trent City Council – will create enough room for 355 more workers.
Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce chief executive Sara Williams said: "This is great news and we are always delighted to hear of successful firms which want to stay in Stoke-on-Trent, especially those which are creating new jobs.
"Ageas already employs hundreds of people in Stoke-on-Trent so it is positive news for its existing employees there too, and we are always pleased to see large and successful firms remain in the area and expand.
"It is a real boost for Stoke-on-Trent, and another sign of the increasing confidence in the area."
