News : Hampton 311 Call Center Provides Access to City Information
Hampton, VA, USA, Dec 18, 2015 -- Hampton has budgeted to give residents a way to quickly and easily access information and alert the city to issues like clogged storm drains.
The city's 311 call center is staffed 16 hours a day, 363 days a year, closing only on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The call center is the first line of resident service for city departments like Public Works and receives about 150,000 calls, emails and web inquiries each year.
The center can transform into an emergency operations center in the event of a disaster or severe weather, handling non-emergency 911 calls, monitoring events and handling reverse 911 or 311 calls, which are automated messages sent out to residents with information like evacuation orders.
