News : Internal Helpline for Cops Fast-tracks Pending Issues
Pune, India, Dec 5, 2018 -- The lower constabulary that normally struggles to get their work issues addressed within the police department now have assistance in the Samadhan Cell — a body functioning officially to facilitate solutions for problems faced by lower-rung cops.
The cell runs a special helpline that functions from the Pune city control room. The helpline received 118 calls in November out of which 76 issues were resolved while 42 issues are awaiting redressal.
Pune police commissioner K Venkatesham told Mirror, "The issues faced by the lower constabulary are many and often do not get a direct platform for redress. We have therefore come up with this forum to ensure these are not only heard but comprehensively solved. The emphasis is on redressal within 24 hours. We have given the cell the freedom to address all issues with us. The issues after passing through the commissioner’s desk are sent to the headquarters and the administration for quick redressal."
Talking about his long pending increment, sub-inspector Raju Oval said, "I was supposed to get an increment for a 15 month period which was pending. I was on leave for that period but was entitled to get my due. On approaching the Samadhan Cell the matter was escalated and I received my entire increment within two days."
Sachin Babar, traffic constable, said, "I was posted in Bibvewadi when I was transferred to the traffic branch. However, I wasn't getting released from my earlier post for various reasons. Following intervention of the CP office through this cell, I got my transfer letter and got to report to the traffic branch."
Similarly, Suresh Kamble, a retired constable had his pension pending at the police headquarters. Kamble said, "I retired in July and got the gratuity. However, the pension was pending which I now expect to receive this month. Though they took a few days, they ensured I get my money."
Several members of the women’s constabulary had issues ranging from maternity leaves and medical bills which have also been redressed. One of them, Sonali Kote, said, "I was entitled to reimbursement of medical bills it was pending for more than six months. The amount was huge and despite several requests, the matter was hanging between departments. On approaching Samadhan, the money was transferred to my account."
Another constable, who did not want to be identified, said she was seeking maternity leave from her seniors for six months, and was granted the same within 24 hours from the call.
Police officials have called up the helpline primarily for issues related to leave, transfer, salary and arrears, bonuses, rent allowances, retirement arrears and even some work-related issues. Several of them also called the cell to seek the annual allowance for stitching uniforms. The Samadhan Cell officials stated that most of the policemen did not receive this allowance of Rs 5,000 for uniforms for more than a year.
