News : International Call Center Bringing Jobs, Higher Wages to Hamilton
Hamilton, OH, USA, May 2, 2016 -- New jobs are coming to Hamilton.
Barclaycard, a credit card issuer, just cut the ribbon on a brand new call center.
The company looked north to Dayton, and south to Cincinnati, but Barclaycard decided to come to Hamilton, Ohio, and the CEO called it an easy decision.
"What made it simple for me was the skilled labor market, quality real estate and infrastructure and the welcoming business climate at state, regional and local levels," said CEO Curt Hess.
It’s making a big difference for people like Diane Hooks. She says she had been downsized several times, and was working part-time jobs before landing a job at Barclaycard.
"When I heard Barclaycard coming to Ohio, I said, ‘I think this is something I’m going to apply for,’" Hooks said.
Now she’s one of about 100 employees who are part of the first wave of hires at the Barclaycard call center.
The positions are full-time jobs, and have retirement, health benefits and new offices. And the employees are getting in at the right time because Barclaycard hopes to grow this site to house 1,500 jobs.
Sens. Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown both were in on celebrating the start of something that could be very big.
"These jobs start at close to $14 an hour and with a 6 percent 401k match. That’s a big deal and again, thank you for that, for raising the standard of living for a whole lot of people in Hamilton," said Brown.
Portman said the area is "pumped" to have Barclaycard here because "these are the kind of jobs we want to grow in Ohio right."
