News : Investing in Call Centres
Harare, Zimbabwe, Nov 16, 2015 -- The private sector has been urged to consider investing in call centres as the move will help in creating job opportunities in line with the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation.
A call centre is a place where customers and other phone calls are handled by an organisation, usually with some amount of computer automation.
The call was made by Minister for Policy Co-ordination and Promotion of Socio-Economic Ventures in the President’s Office Cde Simon Khaya Moyo during the service excellence awards dinner held in Harare, recently.
"I am reliably informed that the Contact Centre Association aims to develop the Call Centre Industry, promote a culture of service excellence and uphold customer service standards and values, which are key ingredients for economic and social development of our country," he said.
"As Government, we welcome such services to the country. As you may be aware, the services sector is growing not only in Zimbabwe, but in the world at large. In this regard, I would like to urge the private sector to seriously invest in call centres. Call centres will help us create jobs for thousands of graduates and youths," he said.
Cde Khaya Moyo said Government was in full support of the establishment of Call Centres in the country.
"I am fully aware that the Ministry of Information Communication Technology and Courier Services is setting up the Government National Call Centre. That project is a clear testament that we, as Government, are taking this sector seriously and are prioritising job creation as planned under Zim-Asset," he said.
"As we can talk of agriculture, mining and other real sectors of the economy, the service industry is also quite a significant contributor to the growth of the economies in Africa," he said.
"Customer service reaches out into the hearts and minds of every single citizen; it particularly reaches out in the hearts and minds of investors, and of tourists. Fostering a culture of service excellence must therefore be high on the national agenda."
