News : Italian Operators File Appeal Against New Contract Rules
Lazio, Italy, Dec 29, 2015 -- Italian operators have filed an appeal at the administrative court of Lazio against the new customer contract regulations imposed by regulator Agcom, La Repubblica reports.
The industry group Asstel and ISP association AIIP filed the case on behalf of their members against the regulations adopted by Agcom in October.
The new rules aim to increase transparency, requiring operators to provide more information to customers. For example if the terms of the contract change, customers should be informed about their right to cancel without penalty, and the changes should be published also on the operator's website. Customers must also be informed within a month of any contract ending.
The rules limit the maximum duration of a contract to 24 months, down from 30 currently, and providers must also offer a 12-month contract option. In addition, mobile phones may be paid off over a longer period than the service contract.
Other issues covered include tighter controls on telesales. The operators claim that Agcom has given too little time to adapt to the rules, with the regulation coming into effect only 45 days after it was passed.
