News : Jobs Lost as Newcastle Taxi Call Centre Goes to Melbourne
Melbourne, Australia, Jan 13, 2016 -- About 12 jobs have been lost as Newcastle Taxis shuts its Newcastle call-centre in the change-over to the 13CABS brand.
The Newcastle Herald revealed the 13CABS strategy on December 22, after drivers were told about the changes.
In a statement on Wednesday, 12CABS said all calls to Newcastle Taxis would be handled through a 24-hour "contact centre" in Melbourne.
The statement said that about 12 jobs were to go from the Newcastle call centre as a result.
"13CABS is currently consulting with the 12 affected staff to explore options including possible redeployment within the network," chief operating officer Stuart Overell said.
Mr Overell said the rebranded cabs would be on Newcastle streets from Sunday.
