News : Kent and Medway Urgent Mental Health Helpline Operational after Technical Issue

Kent, UK, Jan 3, 2022 -- A helpline for urgent mental health help in Kent and Medway is now operational again after technical issues earlier (January 3).

The helpline is a telephone service available those aged 18 and over in Kent and Medway who are concerned about their mental health, or the mental health of a friend or relative, and need urgent help.

This service is for members of the public who are not currently receiving care or treatment from Kent and Medway NHS Social Care Partnership (KMPT).

A KMPT spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, the helpline was unavailable for a short period of time this morning. This has been rectified and the service is now fully operational. If any callers were unable to get through we urge them to call back."

Callers this morning were diverted to KMPT’s switchboard, who then referred them on to the correct team to help. There is also advice on the KMPT website highlighting other sources of help, such as the Samaritans, if someone is experiencing a mental health crisis

The urgent mental health helpline number is 0800 783 9111.

People can call at any time of the day or night, any day of the week. They do not need an appointment and all calls are free.

When a person calls they will speak to someone who is experienced in working with people who need support with their mental health. They can offer advice, reassurance and signposting.
