News : Laclede Gas Plans to Close Former MGE Call Center
May 22, 2014 -- Laclede Gas Co. plans on closing a former Missouri Gas Energy call center in Kansas City within the next 15 months.
Jenny Gobble, a spokeswoman for The Laclede Group Inc. (NYSE: LG), said in a statement that the closure of the call center at 3420 Broadway Blvd. was negotiated as part of contract negotiations between Laclede, who acquired MGE and its assets in September 2013, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
In April, members of Kansas City's IBEW Local 53 who work at the call center at 3420 Broadway Blvd. ratified a new contract that included increased wages and benefits, Gobble said. In those negotiations, the parties agreed that the St. Louis energy company has the discretion to transition out of the call center within 15 months.
"We believe this will be a smooth transition as we have provided a long runway for employees to prepare," Gobble said. "Starting now through that time, we are offering IBEW-represented employees enhanced early retirement and severance benefits. This agreement affects 83 (IBEW-represented) employees."
