Dr. G.V.S Murthy, Director for the Indian Institute of Public Health, Hyderabad, which works under PHFI, said, "There are over 72 million cases registered in India in 2017. This is likely to double to 134 million by 2025. A lot of people do not realise they are suffering from diabetes. This warrants creating awareness among the public about symptoms and early detection."
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Laxman said diabetes posed a major health crisis. A counselling service will not only answer basic questions, but also provide emotional support to the ailing.
