News : Lowe’s Has Event to Fill Positions
Dec 23, 2013 -- A Lowe’s Companies Inc. job fair drew about 130 people interested in new and pre-existing positions at the Lowe’s contact center near the U.S. 421.
"We were pleased with the turnout, particularly considering the time of year" (Christmas season), said Michael B. Hahn, site human relations business partner for Lowe’s.
The Wilkes JobLink Career Center in North Wilkesboro helped organize the job fair and Wilkes JobLink staff were on hand to assist.
Hahn said the three primary areas of the contact center in Wilkesboro with job openings are customer care, store support and customer survey group. "We’re looking at hiring about 75 people in customer care in January. Some are replacements for positions that already existed, but most are for new positions," said Hahn.
They aren’t seasonal jobs, he added, but the new positions resulted partly from expecting sales to increase in the spring.
Departure of people in pre-existing positions account for most of the customer survey group and store support openings at the contact center in Wilkesboro. Hahn didn’t tell the number of jobs available in these areas, but he said Lowe’s is "having normal turnover" there.
Work responsibilities in the customer survey group include conducting outbound and inbound scripted phone surveys and interviews to get feedback and market research data from targeted customer groups.
Hahn said Lowe’s normally requires that job seekers complete online assessment forms before they’re interviewed and not necessarily for jobs immediately available.
Hahn said applicants for Lowe’s contact center jobs typically have varied job experience.
Although work experience involving helping people and being able to explain how it relates to what Lowe’s seeks is important, he said, Lowe’s first of all wants applicants for contact center jobs to have certain key attributes.
He said these include being able to communicate clearly, project confidence, show empathy and maintain an orientation toward helping customers. "It’s the same thing most companies have been looking for in the last 10-15 years."
