News : Massachusetts City Council Votes Against Comcast
Oct 15, 2014 -- A Massachusetts city council voted against allowing Comcast to become their cable provider, citing their poor customer service.
"Comcast is known for being the worst company in America for customer service," said Worcester Councilor Gary Rosen in an interview with The Washington Post. "They’re awful."
Comcast is negotiating a transfer with communities where cable service has been provided by Charter, which is headquartered in Connecticut. Worcester, the second-largest city in Massachusetts and home to a Charter call center, is the first to oppose the transfer out of 53 communities in the area.
"Most are going like sheep," Rosen said. "We won’t go down without a fight."
The Worcester council voted 8 to 3 to ask Edward Augustus, the city manager, who has licensing authority to make a decision, to not give Comcast the green light.
Comcast spokeswoman Sena Fitzmaurice said in an e-mail the company would work with Worcester "to address the concerns they have raised." She did not respond to a question about whether Comcast would keep the Charter call center in the town. Nearly 90 percent of local franchise authorities have approved of the transfer, she said.
