News : MAXIMUS Call Center Closure Results in Layoffs
Midland County, TX, Sept 9, 2014 -- Hundreds of Midland employees will be losing their jobs. That's after a local call center announced they are shutting their doors for good.
MAXIMUS Call Center on FM 1788 and I-20 informed their employees back on September third, they will be closing their doors for good. This means 319 people will be laid off.
MAXIMUS will be splitting its relocation to Austin and San Antonio. The company helps with applications for critical health and human services programs like Medicaid, TANF and SNAP.
In a statement by Division President, Leslie Wolfe, the company says this decision "...Was ultimately driven by the need to ensure Texas Health and Human Services Commission clients are served most effectively and that state tax dollars are used most efficiently."
Representatives of MAXIMUS say severance is being offered to eligible employees. They are also helping them search for jobs by partnering with the Texas Workforce Commission.
MAXIMUS says they are, "...Proud of the work staff members in Midland have done to maintain the highest levels of service and quality throughout our time in West Texas, and [they'll] continue to build on that tradition and reputation in San Antonio and Austin."
The company also says this facility closure will mean the elimination of all MAXIMUS positions in Midland, which is currently 319 people.
NewsWest 9 spoke with multiple employees who did not wish to speak on camera to comment.
No exact date is set for the closure. The company says its goal is by the end of 2014.
