News : Meriden Call Center Expected to Add 60 to 70 Jobs
Meriden, CT, Jan 16, 2015 -- A mortgage lending company is expected to add 60 to 70 jobs when it opens a call center in space left vacant by Response Insurance Group.
The Money Source of Millville, N.Y. has signed a lease with the Meriden Business Park LLC for space at 500 S. Broad St., the former home of Response Insurance and before that the International Silver Co.
City officials met with Money Source Partner Brian Wentworth Friday. Wentworth is a former executive with The National Groups, a mortgage firm that had offices at 500 S. Broad St.
"They were familiar with the area and with the space," said Juliet Burdelski, director of the city’s Economic Development department. "They are very comfortable with the location."
The Money Source is expected to move in to half of the first floor over the next three to six months. The Meriden call center will be a satellite office where mortgages can be serviced, she said.
No changes are being made to the building, so no site plan approval is needed, said Dominick Caruso, the city’s director of development and enforcement.

The Money Source is located within the city’s Information Technology Zone a designation for IT manufacturers, service businesses and others. Companies within the zone are eligible for tax abatements on real and personal property. According to Burdelski, The Money Source plans to purchase new IT equipment and will have more details as the company puts together its application for the incentives.
"The addition of 60 to 70 new jobs is welcome news for Meriden," Burdelski said. "The 500 S. Broad St. location is well-suited for this type of business and it provides a great opportunity for expansion over time. It’s been quiet up there."
