News : Minacs Plans Halifax-area Analytics Centre, Aims for 50 New Jobs
Halifax, NS, Canada, Dec 9, 2015 -- A global technology company is making Halifax the home of its new North American analytics centre, with some financial help from the province.
Minacs Group Inc., which has a call centre in Dartmouth, announced plans for the analytics centre of excellence on Tuesday. The company can earn a payroll rebate if it creates 50 jobs in the next few years.
The five-year deal is with Nova Scotia Business Inc., the province’s business development agency. The rebate was one of two announced Tuesday by NSBI.
Minacs has 335 employees at its Dartmouth call centre. The operation provides sales and customer service for a media house and a telecom client, a Detroit-based spokeswoman said.
"We do have a large office in Dartmouth but we are still evaluating options about where the new centre of excellence should be," Pooja Srivastava said in an email.
The new centre will open early next year, the spokeswoman said. Minacs expects to add 15 positions to its location operation by February, bringing the total number of workers to 350, she added.
Minacs, formerly Aditya Birla Minacs before it changed hands in 2014, closed a Port Hawkesbury call centre in 2012.
Almost 125 people were laid off at that time.

Minacs CEO Anil Bhalla said the province is close to clients, which creates opportunities for business growth. The province’s post-secondary sector and the payroll rebate also influenced the decision to expand here, he added.
"Nova Scotia has established a strong foundation of infrastructure and institutions that position it as the business destination of choice for complex analytics solutions," Bhalla said in a news release.
The centre of excellence will do research and development aimed at advancing the company’s analytics technology, the company said.
