News : Mobile Apps Set to Boost e-Services in Oman
Muscat, Oman, May 1, 2015 -- Information Technology Authority (ITA) has signed a contract with HCL Technologies to implement the Mobile Applications Development Centre.
The contract was signed at COMEX 2015 by Dr Salim Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA, and Arindam Sengupta, director, Middle East and Turkey, HCL Technologies Ltd.
The contract is valid for three years. The ITA will provide training to three batches every year with 54 trainees in each batch. They will receive training for three months after which 10 trainees from each batch will go for a 6-month advanced training programme.
The centre aims to develop mobile applications in Oman through skill development and by creating an industry demand in the region. It also seeks to establish the ecosystem for local talent to get incubated into mobile application development and develop them into becoming freelancers, entrepreneurs or industry professionals.
The Mobile Applications Development Centre will also serve as an advisory for local SMEs and start-ups by establishing industry standard best practices and subsequently offering mobility services to various SMEs in the region.
To ensure accessibility of health services to everyone in the Sultanate, anywhere and at anytime, the mobile app service, which complements the call centre, was launched by the ministry recently.
It has a health database that can be accessed by specialists, researchers and administrators. In addition, the app is linked to the patient's record to provide the right services once requested.
This application is safe and secure, as only authorised personnel can reach the patient's personal data through a national ID number. It also has a dashboard to enable officials to follow-up on the complaints and enquiries received.
