News : MSP Raises Concerns about Stornoway Call Centre Jobs
Western Isles, Scotland, Jan 23, 2015 -- Western Isles MSP Alasdair Allan has spoken with Highlands and Islands Enterprise about the future of jobs at Consumer Advice Direct’s Call Centre in Stornoway.
This follows letters which have been sent to 27 employees warning them of the risk of redundancy.
Alasdair Allan commented: "This is obviously a significant number of jobs for the Western Isles and I am concerned to make sure that all is done that can be to ensure that work is retained in the islands.
"I spoke today with Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), who have invested money in the call centre premises at Gleann Seileach, and who are now working with the company and employees to find a way forward.
"It is clearly important that Consumer Advice Direct clarify their intentions and avoid the current uncertainty as this is an outstanding facility both in terms of its service to the public and because of the important jobs it provides in the fragile island economy."
