Kouga , South Africa, April, 2018 -- Kouga Municipality would like to ask residents to use the call centre for its intended purpose only - to report service delivery issues that need immediate attention.
The call centre was set up by the municipality in October last year as a platform for residents to report issues such as uncollected refuse, burst pipes, electrical outages, sewer spills, etc.
Newly-elected Executive Mayor Horatio Hendricks said there was a notable increase in the number of calls to the call centre from people wanting to be transferred to a specific municipal department or official.
"The call centre is not the switchboard. It is specifically for the reporting of service faults," he explained.
"Should callers have a query or wish to speak to a specific department or official, we ask that they please hold for the switchboard operator when dialing the municipal number."
The municipality can be reached by calling 042 200 2200.
Once the call is picked up, callers are guided by a voice prompt inviting them to press "one for Fire and Disaster Management, two for the Call Centre, three for the Traffic Department, four for Account Queries or hold for the operator".
The call centre can be reached at this number seven days a week from 07:30 to 19:00.
After 19:00, callers are asked to dial the all-hour emergency numbers 042 291 0250 or 042 200 8330.
