News : National Toll-free Number for TB Info, Support
Mumbai, India, Dec 28, 2015 -- The ministry of health and family welfare has launched a toll free number (1800-11-6666) where people can get counselling as well as treatment support for tuberculosis. Union health ministry recently announced the launch of the round-the-clock helpline.
"It is in continuation of our IT-based initiatives. It will also make the Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP) more patient-centric," he said. India accounts for nearly one-fifth of the global tuberculosis incidence. The RNTCP, based on the internationally recommended Directly Observed Treatment Short-course (DOTS) strategy, was launched in 1997 to control the spread of tuberculosis and cut down on mortality.
The dedicated toll free number with a call centre will work round the clock to provide support for patient counselling.
