News : New 911 Call Center Online
Sylva, NC, USA, April 29, 2015 -- The 911 call center moved to the EOC from the Justice Center April 22. A Swain County grant funded an effort to make the two counties’ 911 call centers compatible should one go offline and paid for new radio and telephone equipment.
Jackson County’s new 911 call center is the first in the state to employ all fiber-optic telephone lines, increasing the speed, reliability and redundancy of the service, Emergency Management Director Todd Dillard said.

The new systems enable dispatchers to instruct multiple departments faster and more efficiently and provide more reliable locations for cellular telephone calls. "The transition went very smoothly," Dillard said.
A fiber-optic line linking the Jackson and Swain centers is expected to be operational in July when Swain’s new EOC and 911 call center is completed.
