News : New Charity Link-up for Rothesay Contact Centre
Feb 6, 2014 -- Staff at Rothesay’s Webhelp UK contact centre are aiming to help raise more than £20,000 for one of the UK’s cancer charities during 2014.
The customer experience management company has teamed up with Macmillan Cancer Support as its charity partner for the year - and aims to raise £23,500 for the cause across its UK sites by the end of December.
David Turner, the CEO of Webhelp UK CEO, has kicked off the company’s fund-raising efforts by pledging £1,000 from his annual Christmas card appeal and a further £1,000 for each of its nine UK sites.
Staff will also compete in a virtual challenge to cycle, swim and run the equivalent distance from Rothesay - the company’s first UK site - to Paris and back by the end of February. This will also mark the first anniversary of the company becoming part of the international Webhelp group.
April Davidson, Macmillan’s regional fundraising manager, said: "There are currently two million people living with cancer in the UK and statistics indicate this number is due to double by 2030. It is estimated that every diagnosis affects 44 other people including family, friends and colleagues.
"We are thrilled to be chosen as Webhelp UK’s charity partner and look forward to working together over the course of the year to raise vital funds for people affected by cancer.
Beverley Lambert, head of human resources at Webhelp UK, said: "Charitable contribution is a key part of our company ethos and we want to help MacMillan in its goal to offer practical, medical and financial support to even more people throughout the UK.
"We are confident that 2014 will be our best year for fundraising yet, and look forward to beginning our new partnership with MacMillan Cancer Support."
In the UK, Webhelp has contact centres in Rothesay, Dunoon, Greenock, Glasgow, Kilmarnock, Falkirk, Derby, Warrington and Dearne Valley in south Yorkshire.
The company was created following the acquisition of HEROtsc by Webhelp Group in February 2013, though its Bute roots go back to the formation of Telecom Service Centres Ltd in Rothesay by Lennie Moffat and Harry Summers, who used their redundancy money to set up the firm in 1994.
