News : Newark Schools Implements 211 Hotline
Newark, New Jersey Nov 28, 2014 -- Newark City Schools is going local with its hotline service — switching from Columbus-based Security Voice Inc. to Pathways of Central Ohio’s 211 service.
The move is effective Monday and is expected to save the district several thousand dollars a year. That could vary slightly based on call volume and any startup costs, such as promotional materials.
Aside from the number change, the hotline will work the same as in the past. Starting Monday, students, parents or whoever can call 211 with a tip: Maybe bullying is taking place in an elementary school; maybe a student overheard a threat regarding the high school; maybe it’s something personal, such as a student dealing with suicidal thoughts.

Hotline workers handle the call, help the caller in any way immediately possible, and pass on any relevant information to school officials for follow-up.
The service is available 24/7, 365 days a year, and callers can remain anonymous.
