News : NFU Mutual in Plans to Close to Cardiff Office with Loss of 58 Jobs
Cardiff, Wales, Oct 15, 2015 -- Insurer NFU Mutual has confirmed that it is considering plans to close its Cardiff office with the loss of 58 jobs.
The company said it is planning to restructure its regional service centres to create two centres of excellence at Bristol and York.
The plans would involve the closure of two of the nine regional centres, at Cardiff and Wellingborough. The company’s Mutual Direct sales centre which is also based in Cardiff is not affected.
NFU Mutual said it has entered into a 45-day consultation with staff in the two offices. The total number affected between the two centres is 85.
It added that staff at the Cardiff office would be offered the possibility of redeploying to Bristol where the claims and underwriting functions will be relocated.
Steve Bower, customer services director at NFU Mutual, said: "As part of our long-term commitment to delivering a first class and efficient service to our members, we are proposing to restructure our nine regional service centres. This will allow us to create two centres with specialist expertise, delivering a more focused and streamlined experience for our members.
"Unfortunately, subject to consultations, this proposal involves the closure the regional service centre in Cardiff, relocating its claims and underwriting functions to our Bristol office.
"Our proposal is in no way a reflection of staff performance and we would hope to support as many people as possible to consider redeployment to our service centre in Bristol.
"We have entered a minimum, 45-day period of consultation with all affected employees and our immediate priority is to support and advise these employees throughout this period of uncertainty.
"The decision to make the proposed changes has not been an easy one but, ultimately by consolidating our service centres, we can continue to provide a first class and efficient service to our members.
"NFU Mutual will retain a commercial presence in the local area through its sales call centre, Mutual Direct and local agency offices."
The two expanded centres at Bristol and York will service motor and personal claims and underwriting. Bristol will also continue to lead on NFU Mutual’s Affluent Homeowner proposition, while York will keep its focus on the equine sector.
NFU Mutual will continue to operate commercial underwriting teams at seven offices, in Bristol, Chester, Stratford, Belfast, Glasgow, Norwich and York.
There will continue to be a specialist technical claims department in Belfast and a first notification of loss claims centre in Glasgow.
