News : Noida Plans Call Centre for Those in Home Isolation

Noida, India, April 3, 2020 -- A call centre will come up in Noida by Friday evening to help residents who are in isolation in their homes. According to the World Health Organisation, those in isolation at home because their relatives have tested positive often need psychological support.

In a Sector 74 society on Thursday, four of a family where one person has tested positive were in tears when health officials came to take their samples. They feared they would eventually be evicted from society. Shifted to a government facility last week, the woman’s husband in the family had tested positive on Thursday morning.

The man worked at Cease Fire in Noida Sector 135 and had been put in the quarantine block at Gautam Buddha University earlier. His father was also quarantined by the health team.

"The woman has been inconsolable from the time her husband was taken away. It was upsetting to see them like this," said Prashant Yadav, a resident of the same society. District magistrate LY Suhas said, "We have been in talks with some private players and are getting experts on board.

Trained counsellors, professionals and medical experts would be roped in to psychologically support those under observation. We want to go live with the helpline number once all the resources are in place. Hopefully it will be ready by Friday evening."

With focus on contact tracing, the staff deputed at the call centre would be asked to connect with the relatives of positive COVID-19 patients twice a day. The call centre would be open for general queries of the residents as well as to report symptoms.

Suhas said that of 48 cases, six persons have recovered. "Not a single patient in the district needs a ventilator and I hope the situation remains that way," he added. While 20 ventilators are available at the government facilities handling COVID-19 cases, 28 more have been kept on standby in two private hospitals.
