News : Now, WhatsApp Helpline for Sanitation Complaints
New Delhi, Aug 27, 2014 -- Residents of north Delhi will soon be able to send in their sanitation complaints, including pictures of piles of garbage or clogged drains, on a WhatsApp helpline.
The North Delhi Municipal Corporation is preparing a range of long-term measures to deal with sanitation issues, while a 100-day cleanliness drive is under way.
Environment Management Services Committee chairperson Vijay Prakash Pandey on Tuesday said, "In the next two or three months, we will start a WhatsApp helpline so that residents could send in their complaints. We will resolve their issues and send them photos within 24 hours."
Mr. Pandey said the civic body has already started receiving daily reports from the waste management concessionaires that collect garbage in north Delhi. The supervisors of the contractor send a photo of each garbage dump or dhalao after it is cleaned in the morning to officials through WhatsApp.
"Councillors will also be sent photos of the garbage collection in their ward every day," said Mr. Pandey.
These measures come in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasising cleanliness, which the Capital’s BJP-led municipal corporations have taken up as their agenda.
