News : NRI Portal, 24×7 Call Centre Launched
Chandigarh, Jan 7, 2014 -- On the pattern of NRI police stations working independently of normal policing in districts, the Punjab Government has initiated the process of instituting separate courts for handling civil cases of NRIs.
Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal said this while launching an exclusive portal for the NRIs.
The website was launched in connection with the NRI Sammelan-2014, which will be held on January 10-11 at Sri Anandpur Sahib and Jalandhar. He said on the first day, there would be an interactive session at Virasat-E-Khalsa complex where elected representatives from various countries would provide feedback on the policies and programmes of the Punjab Government.
Sukhbir said separate courts would facilitate speedy justice to the NRIs. He said the government had also started the process for having a fast-track court for NRI-related cases. He said separation of the NRI police wing from other police stations had shown favourable results. He also said the holders of NRP card, introduced by the government last year, would be entitled for a life insurance of Rs 5 lakh.
He also appealed the NRIs to participate in the development of their villages. He said a 24X7 call centre had also been established for NRIs (0172-672301).
