News : Nuneaton DWP Contact Centre Staff Sent to Coventry as Site is to Close


Nuneaton, England, Mar, 2022 -- Shocked staff at Nuneaton's DWP contact centre have been told to go to Coventry as their site is to close. Employees at the centre in DWP in Discovery House in Barling Way were today (March 17) told that their centre is closing - and that they have to move to a centre in Coventry.

The Nuneaton centre is one of 30 DWP sites closing, with alternative sites being offered to staff. The staff member told CoventryLive: "We've been told we have to move to Coventry Cofa Court in the city centre. The contact centre on Barling Way is closing."

It is understood that staff members, alongside those across the country, have been urged by their unions to lobby their MP about the loss of the local site. According to the Mirror, the Department for Work and Penions plan to close around 42 offices in what is a major shake-up of its centres across the country.

While the site is being axed, the Nuneaton staff have been offered an alternative place to work - albeit up the A444 in Coventry - and will require more travel. It is understood 13 sites will be shut with "no other strategic site nearby" for their 1,300 workers to move to.
