News : Officials Welcome Caterpillar Call Center to Depot District
Bluefield, WV, USA, March 27, 2015 -- Local dignitaries and Caterpillar personnel gathered for an open house at the new Caterpillar Global Mining America LLC, call center located at 622 Commerce Street in Bluefield’s Depot District. The call center is located in the building that previously housed the Bluefield Automobile Club.
Richard P. LaValle, logistics center manager from Caterpillar’s center in Houston, Pa., served as master of ceremonies for the event. "We’re really excited to get a nice office set up here," LaValle said. He said the team in Bluefield is "an important part" of ensuring that coal mining customers know they can get the right parts when they need them.
LaValle explained that the facility is "a global parts control center," that will help companies that operate Caterpillar machinery in coal mines get the parts when they need them.
"What an exciting day!" West Virginia Senate President Bill Cole, R-Mercer, said. "We should be proud as a community." Cole expressed thanks to the H.I. Shott Jr., Foundation, Janet Bailey and the Development Authority of Mercer County and added: "A great thanks needs to go to Caterpillar."
Cole said that the West Virginia state legislature worked hard during the recently concluded session to make the state more business friendly. "There was a pretty dynamic change," Cole said. "We did a whole lot of things in a short, 60-day session."
State Delegate Marty Gearheart, R-Mercer, also thanked Caterpillar. "We’re really, really excited to have you here," Gearheart said. "It is exciting for us. We had a great 60 days. There’s more to come."
State Delegate John H. Shott, R-Mercer, thanked Caterpillar on behalf of the House of Delegates. He also thanked the company on behalf of the Hugh I. Shott Jr., Foundation, As well as on behalf of the neighborhood. Shott’s law office is located directly across the street from the call center. "What you’re doing has upgraded the neighborhood," Shott said.
Debbie Maynard, executive vice president of the Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce expressed the chamber’s appreciation to Caterpillar for their on-going support of the biennial Bluefield Coal Show.
Bluefield Mayor Tom Cole expressed the appreciation of the city. "I’m also a neighbor," Cole said, making reference to the RailYard, also located across the street from the new call center. "We’re glad to see you here," he said.
