News : Outdoor Adventures Hiring 30 Full-time Employees
Bay City MI, USA, Nov 17, 2015 -- For many years, time has stood still at the historic Kresge building in downtown Bay City.
And with it, so has the economy. At least it has felt that way.
Once home to a popular five-and-dime store and two different banks, the 75-year-old building, best known for its bright red wrap-around facade at the corner of Washington and Center avenues, hasn't been home to the dozens of employees its capable of holding until earlier this year when a Bay City camping resort business decided to move its corporate headquarters from the city's West Side to the location.
Since then, the owners of Outdoor Adventures, now in their 20th year of business, have made a commitment to bring the building — and downtown Bay City's economy — back to its former glory.
Earlier this month, the square clock at the top of the building's facade was repaired after being stuck at 8:06 for about the past 12 years. New LED lighting was installed to brighten the clock at night.
But more importantly, the company this week announced plans to hire up to 30 full-time call center employees after the new year, nearly doubling the number of employees who work at the headquarters. Crews are renovating a 2,000-square-foot, lower-level office space for the new call center employees.
Some of the employees could come from the company's current call center in Davidson, which is being moved to the new Bay City headquarters, said Annette Bruzewski, marketing director for Outdoor Adventures. Those employees could find other jobs within the company that don't require them to commute to Bay City, she added.
The new employees are going to be paid a base plus commission and could be making upwards of $60,000, Bruzewski said. Positions include data entry, reservation confirmation and customer service representatives.
Commission is paid by setting up appointments to view Outdoor Adventure's campgrounds that they market to potential members.
"We've had some people doing it for 10 years and they are truly motivated to work hard with a good attitude and have fun," Bruzewski said.
The jobs are expected to be posted in the coming weeks on Indeed.com and on Craigslist. Jason King, co-owner of Outdoor Adventures, hopes to have everyone hired by the new year.
"I think our move downtown has reinvigorated our staff and helped with our recent growth," he said. "It's an exciting time for our business."
Outdoor Adventures is a membership-based camping resort company. Its guests pay a membership fee and in return get unlimited access — pending availability — to its resorts at seven different locations across Michigan. Resorts offer access to everything from tents to RV camping and also include cabins.
With new sales staff coming on after the new year, King is hoping for even more growth. The company looked to acquire a property in Traverse City last year, but the deal fell through, he said.
