News : Over 100 Jobs Under Threat at Axa Insurance Dublin Operations
Dublin, Ireland, Feb 12, 2016 -- Around 108 jobs could be lost in Dublin as insurance provider Axa plans to shift a number of operations to Northern Ireland, Independent.ie has learned.
The French-owned group is remaining tight-lipped this afternoon on the details of the plan, however, they have issued the following statement confirming the restructuring.
"AXA Insurance operates on an all Island basis and following a review of its business processes has decided in the interests of efficiency and customer service to consolidate some of its operations, which will involve the relocation of some roles from Dublin to Derry. Net job losses will be small and the company is confident this can be achieved on a voluntary basis.
"AXA will not be commenting on any specific details as discussions with employee representatives are ongoing," the statement says.
Trade unions, Siptu and Unite, which represent workers at Axa Insurance, are understood to have held meetings with management.
While Axa says that net job losses will be ‘small’, trade union, Unite, has said that workers have been informed of ‘substantial’ job losses.
"We can confirm that workers in Axa have been advised of substantial proposed job losses. It is as a result of the company’s plans to relocate some operational activity to Derry.
"Unite and Siptu will be engaging intensively with the company starting next week in an attempt to minimise these jobs losses and secure the best terms for our members," a spokesperson for Unite told independent.ie.
According to a source close to the firm the job losses will be in the claims department, call centre as well as other areas.
The company's Irish headquarters is at Wolfe Tone Street, Dublin 1.
It is understood the company employs around 750 people in the Republic and 300 in Northern Ireland.
