News : Panasiatic Links with Bacolod City Government to Address Talent Gap
Bacolod City, Philippines, Dec 26, 2016 -- Call center company Panasiatic Solutions Inc., has partnered anew with the Bacolod City Government for the implementation of the Barangay Achieve program to bridge the talent pool gap in the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector.
Recruitment manager Alain Fideles Pilar, in a press conference on Friday, December 23, said call center companies in the city, for the last couple of years, have been challenged by the depleting source of workers.
Not a lot of applicants are now walking in, he said, adding from an average of 100 per day before, the number has significantly decreased to only about 40 applicants.
"The hiring percentage is only 20 percent mainly due to problems in the communication skill aspect thus, the intake is not really that much," Pilar said, citing that the company is currently spending too much for overhead expenses as two floors of its second building are still unoccupied.
He added the BPO sector is still growing, and that "we are still supposed to expand, but we are not seeing people."

Aside from migration and change in career path, the depleting local talent pool is also attributed to the implementation of the K to 12 program of the Department of Education.
Siony Hijara, general manager and site director, said that two years of having no graduates in the secondary level is the root cause of the gap which they are trying to address.
Aside from going aggressive with trainings through different partner-training centers, they are again collaborating with the barangays with the hope to close the gap, she added.
Through Barangay Achieve, barangay officials will help source from their respective areas people who are even not qualified, but have the potential for a call center job, she added.
"We have the resources and training modules to polish them and accommodate their different needs," Hijara said, adding that through the program, they hope to inform those who have stopped schooling that Panasiatic is hiring.
Last Friday, Panasiatic already conducted the orientation among 61 barangay captains in the city.
Through the program, the company is optimistic to initially get at least 20 potential candidates for employment in every barangay.
Applicants must be 18 to 50 years old. They should be high school graduates with NC II certificate from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
The program, which will start next year, also requires a complete first semester grades for college level applicants who will undergo two to three weeks of training.
"With limitation on the workforce, we might extend the training course to eight to 10 weeks," Hijara said, adding that the company is doing an extra mile just to get the number of people they need.
For the City Government’s part, Councilor Ricardo Tan, chairman of the City Council committee on cooperatives and livelihood, said the Barangay Achieve will easily connect residents to Panasiatic for possible employment.
Through this program, Tan said they target to fill at least 3,000 available call center jobs, which will surely reduce unemployment in the city.
"Aside from providing livelihood to the people, this can really help pump prime the city’s economy," he added.
