News : Pink Slips Confirm Pending March 4 Closure
Montague, PEI, Canada, Jan 12, 2016 -- The woman sitting in her car having a smoke break had no idea.
"Everything is fine,’’ she said after rolling down her window Monday. "There’s no pink slip going around today."
But by Tuesday, the HGS call centre, which once employed well over 100 people, was handing them out and, according to sources, anticipating a March 4 closure.
The Guardian made numerous efforts Monday to contact company administration to clarify the closure rumour, but did not receive call backs.
On Tuesday morning, an administrator came out of the building to tell a reporter that a company media spokesperson would be in touch about the situation.

"No one is allowed to say anything,’’ said long-time employee Faye MacQuillan. "It’s best to come from the company media person."
Employees arriving for the morning shift at the Brook Street centre declined to respond to questions about the future of the operation as they bustled inside from the cold winds. Currently, about 50 agents and 15 support staff work at the site.
HGS, with headquarters based in India, operates a number of call centres, including the Montague operation for Virgin Mobile. The call centre, originally set up by On-Line Support, opened in 2002 and has a banner outside the front door noting wages of $12.50 an hour.
