News : Police Issue Alert Over Telephone Scams
Jan 15, 201-- Police are warning people in the Pocklington area to be aware of fraudulent activity via phone calls and the internet following a call to a woman in Sancton.
Last Friday, the Sancton resident received a phone call from what she believed was an Indian call centre. The caller claimed to be a Microsoft Windows specialist, told her computer had been hacked, and that he needed to check it.
The intended victim quite rightly asked for credentials and the caller said they would ring back – but never did.
If you have had a similar experience there is now the Action Fraud helpline, which works with the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau. To report an incident call 0300 123 2040.
