News : Portland-area Unemployment Offices Closed Monday
Feb 10, 2014 -- WorkSource unemployment offices are closed Monday in the Portland metro-area, along with one of the state's three unemployment insurance call centers.
Oregon Employment Department spokesman Tom Fuller said the remaining call centers are open, but staffing is limited. That means people attempting to file claims today by phone may be waiting awhile.
Mondays are typically among the busiest days at the call centers, because thousands of people phone in their unemployment insurance claims for the week.
Some people may not be able to get through at all Monday morning and receive a busy signal instead.
About 50,000 workers file for unemployment every week. Fuller said people should the online claims system to avoid the delays.
The Columbia County Worksource office in St. Helens is also closed.
