Pretoria, South Africa, Jan 5, 2017 -- South African Police Union (Sapu) President, Mpho Kwinika, says there are problems at the 10111 emergency call centre.
He says they went from problems of salary grading and moved to issues of manpower. If these issues are not managed properly they may cause very serious problems with service delivery.
Kwinika says these issues were first raised in 2013 but the then management union bashing scuppered the mediation process and the problems remained unresolved.
"We were shocked to learn that those problems which were raised weren't resolved because General Phiyega said she did not want the unions to go into that environment. — Mpho Kwinika, President of SAPU
"We believe that anybody who is working within the policing environment is rendering an essential service and as a result, we need to make sure that we do not create a problem that will lead to people going on strike, — Mpho Kwinika, President of SAPU
The problem of salary grading has been taken to acting national police commissioner Khomotso Phahlane who has already solved the first batch under review, said Kwinika.
