News : Providing Help to Depressed Lot, the 1091 Helpline Way
Indore, May 26, 2014 -- The toll-free Helpline 1091, launched by the city police and Spandan (an NGO) has been doing wonder for those who are under depression and think that they have no other option but to give up life. The number of cases of suicide has been increasing drastically in the city as people are losing their power of tolerance and instead of facing the situation, they are opting to lose it. Experts claimed that the run for achieving the unrealistic goals is the only reason for the worse situation.
But, the ‘1091’ has saved at least 13 lives in last 10 days and pulled them from the dead end of the life. Overseeing the increasing number of suicide cases, the city police had taken an initiative along with Spandan and launched the helpline to save people by providing proper counselling to them on May 3.
As per the data, 10 men and 3 women had changed their mind from May 10 to May 20, and they have opted to give a fight to the life instead of losing it anyways. The helpline is run at the first floor of Women police station in Palasia. The 24 hour helpline is operated by a female constable and the member of NGO and they gives a proper counselling and motivate people for giving one more chance, not to others but themselves.
Interestingly, the helpline has also been getting the calls from other districts and from near-by states."We are getting calls from Chhatisgarh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and other states. People are turning positive after the counselling and also motivating others for not giving up," a senior officer of helpline said. She further said that they don’t want any publicity but the happy families. They are also getting calls to solve the domestic cases.
