News : Queries Reach a Plateau at Revenue Dept’s Helpline
Ludhiana, India, Aug 31, 2015 -- The number of calls being received on toll free helpline number, launched by the Punjab Revenue Department, have stabilised over the time. Over 250 calls are received on this number on daily basis to enquire about land records and other property details.
Sanjeev Sharma, deputy director, Land Record, Punjab, said: "In the first week of its launch, sometimes the number of queries used to be even more than 1,000 per day. People used to ask queries related to the status of their land disputes in the court even. However, we used to tell them that we provide information of three segments other than court cases. Gradually, people understood it. So, now the number of queries at the toll free number has stabilised up to 250 calls per day."
A higher-official of the Revenue Department said: "Now, people are making use of this number aptly. One can seek information regarding land records and registration of land deed. Usually, people call up to know as what documents they need to attach while getting their registries done and during mutations, etc.

Even, the land owners also acquire knowledge about the status of cases pending with the Revenue Department and information regarding solution as well. Also, any person can file a complaint in case, he is being asked for bribe for getting his work done or being harassed by any employee or officer of the department."
Meanwhile a land owner Rupinder Singh said: "It is a welcome step by the government. Earlier, we used to get this information after visiting the Revenue Department. But now it is easy. However, I suggest that answers to some more queries, others than the prevalent ones, should be provided on this number."
