News : QVC to Lease Port St. Lucie Building to Medical Supply Call Center
Port St. Lucie, FL, USA, Dec 31, 2015 -- Television shopping provider QVC will lease its St. Lucie West call center to a pharmaceutical and medical-supply company when it closes in March.
QVC will rent the 50,000-square-foot building, at 300 N.W. Peacock Blvd., to PST Services, a call-center operation owned by the McKesson Corp., a medical-management software provider and pharmaceutical and medical-supply retailer, said Diane Zappas, QVC director of corporate communications.
McKesson, established in 1833, is headquartered in San Francisco and employs more than 76,000, according to its website.
It's unclear how many employees PST Services will employ locally, but some QVC employees were hired, Zappas said.
"This is a fluid process and that number can change a lot in the next several months," Zappas said.
Zappas said she is unsure how many current QVC employees were hired.
QVC in early June announced it would close the call center by the end of January, laying off approximately 800 employees. The Pennsylvania-based company plans to continue operating call centers in San Antonio, Texas; and Chesapeake, Virginia, Zappas said.
The decision to close the call center wasn't based on employee performance, Zappas said. More customers are placing their orders on mobile and electronic devices, she said.
A handful of employees will remain through March 1, Zappas said.
The decision to lease, rather than sell, was best for QVC, said Zappas, who declined to disclose the terms of the contract with PST Services.
