Jaipur, India, June 6, 2022 -- To reduce accident response time on national highways of Rajasthan, the state transport department is working towards connecting 108 ambulance service with 1033, the helpline number of National Highways Authority of India.
Officials said that less than 3% of the roads in the state fall under national highways, but 36% of accident fatalities are reported from these roads. They said that by joining the helpline number with the ambulance service, response time for accident victims can be reduced as then the state will have close to 800 ambulances available with them.
"By joining the ambulance services, there would be around 800ambulances available with us as NHAI has 90 ambulances and 108 service has over 700. We also have 125 ambulances with advanced life support systems that can treat severely injured accident victim till the person is shifted to a better medical facility," said a senior official.
Along with this, bike ambulance service has been started with the objective of stabilising the patient till a proper ambulance arrives. The state currently has 45 such bike ambulances, where one medical health professional along with the driver reaches the spot to give initial healthcare services.
"We are trying different ways to increase healthcare facilities for accident victims in the state keeping in mind the existing resources and how they can best be used. We are also training medical staff while practising segregation of patients depending who needs to be treated first to reduce fatalities," added the official.
As per the latest report released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the state ranked number 9 in terms of accidents across the country. The state also ranked 4th in the country in terms of highest fatalities reported.
