News : American Standard Brands Ready to Hire
La Vergne, TN, USA, July 16, 2015 -- A New Jersey-based kitchen and bath products maker plans to open manufacturing and call-center operations with up to 600 employees at the former Whirlpool plant in La Vergne.
Piscataway, N.J.-based American Standard Brands has leased a portion of the building at 1714 Heil Quaker Blvd., which industrial developer Ashley Capital LLC bought a year ago with plans to secure manufacturing and distribution tenants.
American Standard already has a 10-employee shared services operation in Nashville with staff including in vendor relations. Eventually, the La Vergne facility will employ 600 for manufacturing, distribution and related services.
Upon buying the former Whirlpool building, Ashley Capital had said it planned renovations with 775,000 square feet of space to be available for tenants.
Under the ordinance to be introduced at Council on Tuesday, American Standard is eligible for $750,000 in property tax abatements over five years. The deal the company is getting is structured similarly to what Oberto Brands got two years ago when it set up a beef jerky processing operation here.
American Standard’s deal also includes an accountability provision. Generally, if at some point full-time employment falls below 480, or 80 percent of the jobs the company has promised to deliver, it would be required to pay the full tax.
Metro Councilman Robert Duvall, who co-sponsored the ordinance, understands about 400 of the overall jobs will be manufacturing plus 200 call-center employees.
"They’re going to be a big shot in the arm, and they’re a win for Southeast Davidson County and Middle Tennessee," he said.
