News : RCMP Issue Warning about Telemarketing, Email Scams
July 7, 2014 -- Halifax RCMP issued a public warning Monday about two recent scams that have been attenpted in the area.
In recent days, a number of people have contacted RCMP about phone calls they’ve been getting from someone who claims to be an RCMP constable. The caller says he is soliciting funds for an anti-bullying book and is seeking donations of $100 to $300.
The people receiving those calls have said the caller hangs up when they seek more information. The RCMP said they do no solicit money this way.
The other situation involves a emailer who says an assassin will be assigned to kill the message recipient unless they pay extortion money.
The RCMP advise people to hang up if they get calls like this or delete emails without responding.
